Time to Kick Bass

Grab your rods and your reels because June 9th is Free Fishing Day in Idaho! It is important to celebrate this day because it is one that is restricted to within the Idaho border, a native celebration. That is the day when any person of any age can fish in any public waters without a license.

This is an oppor-tuna-ty that is too good to pass up. Fishing in Idaho typically costs around twenty-five dollars for an adult and only a small amount less for a junior. That is only for fishing, it is a little bit more to include hunting as well. If you go fishing on June 9th, you are saving yourself upwards of twenty five dollars and much more if you bring people with you.

Since it is summer, it is a great time to get out on the lake on your boat or a friend’s and just have a party with families and friends. The fishing licenses are only offered for people who are ages of fourteen and up. Kids younger than that do not have to have a license anyways, but it is good to take them out with you so that they can learn how to fish. If they have the ability to fish, then the twenty-five bucks spent to get them a license would not be wasted because they would know how to use it.

Some of the best fish to try to hook are Chinook and Sockeye salmon and sturgeon. There are plenty of other varieties of fish, but these are some of the most popular. The website for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game lays out some of the rules for fishing on the other 364 days of the year that are not June 9th if you are interested. They also provide information for fishing tournaments and programs that are going on throughout the state. The website also provides a list of waters that are perfect for fishing with your family. If you have friends that live out of state, gather them together because they are able to take part in the free fishing day as well.

The website for the Department of Fish and Game states that the Free Fishing Day is specifically there so that you can introduce your kids to fishing. Fishing clinics for junior fishermen will be offered state-wide at ponds and such. Those clinics are concentrated specifically in the Southwest Region of the state. If you contact some of the event leaders, you can find out where the nearest clinic is and whether or not the clinic provides equipment for you.
