When riding on a bike, motorcycle, or even scooter it is essential to wear a helmet. First and foremost, helmets are designed to protect an individual’s head, and more importantly brain from injury. Brain injuries are very common in bike accidents especially and a helmet is good protection for when you fall down. The brain affects everything you do so you want to be sure and protect it very well. Even a small brain injury can cause an individual to become paralyzed or even worse, die. Wearing a helmet is essential in order to help protect your head against any sort of injury that may occur. is a great resource to what to do when an accident occurs. Because let’s face it, even if you wear a helmet, you are still able to get in an accident. Wearing a helmet is so important that in some areas it is the law, and you can get in trouble if you don’t wear one while riding your bike or similar motor vehicle. Believe it or not, the government has even made safety regulations concerning bike helmets. When looking to buy a helmet, looks for ones that have a Consumer Product Safety Commission sticker on them letting you know they pass the test and meet all the necessary requirements. Another thing you want to keep in mind is making sure your helmet fits properly. When purchasing your helmet, open it up in the store and ask a sales associate help you to fit the straps to fit your head correctly. You don’t want it to be too big or too small for obvious reasons because then it is less effective. Once you purchase a helmet, and have it fitted for your head, you need to learn the proper way to wear a helmet. Your helmet should be level atop your head, and cover your forehead properly. Make sure to always ensure that the straps are fastened or else it won’t stay atop your head. Helmets are typically made of lightweight foam inside and covered with a hard plastic shell. They come in many different colors and designs so choose one that fits your unique style. You may think wearing a helmet is dorky, but when it saves your life I can guarantee you’ll be singing a different tune! That being said, make sure that you take care of your helmet, it needs to be able to work well and protect your head from injury. If you crash, or drop it accidently and it cracks, take the time to go get a new one. Furthermore, wearing a helmet is also good because it can act as insulation. Sudden changes in temperature affect your brain’s ability to function properly. A helmet allows your head to stay at a neutral temperature. This is interesting to me, and something you probably haven’t thought of. Helmets are useful for a lot of things so don’t take it lightly and not wear one. Protect yourself from harm and get a helmet. You may feel dorky, but it could save your life and to me, that’s worth possibly looking funny.
