Synopsis
The film concerns the attempts of Fidel to resume a normal life after the devastation wrought by his wife's death. He returns to his old friend Crispin and wife Irene. A tentative effort with another woman fails, and Fidel finds himself in Irene's arms. That same evening a young girl is brutally murdered. Fidel, unable to account for his whereabouts, is named the principal suspect, which later leads to his imprisonment. Crispin, meanwhile, learns of Irene's infidelity; his friendship is put to the test when Fidel escapes, gets wounded, and asks Crispin to kill him and put him out of misery.

UNFAITHFUL WIFE is one of the most underrated domestic drama among the oeuvre of Peque Gallaga. From the opening scene he already got the milieu right. His versatility reigns supreme during the 80's from epic ORO PLATA MATA, comedy BAD BANANAS SA PUTING TABING, horror MANANANGGAL from SHAKE RATTLE & ROLL, historical drama VIRGIN FOREST, bold genre SCORPIO NIGHTS to fantasy ONCE UPON A TIME with Lore Reyes. It's even better if you take away the sex scenes of Lala Montelibano, shot by Abbo Dela Cruz. Stellar performances from the three leads Crispin, Fidel and Irene in a story of infidelity and betrayal (Michael de Mesa, Joel Torre & Anna Marie Gutierrez). I thought Peque Gallaga's Unfaithful Wife (1986) was just a typical story of betrayal and infidelity but boy was I wrong. This has "bomba" written all over it and I feel like the sex scenes were just fillers because they really looked out of place. Also, the sex scenes do not really involve the main characters but a side character who doesn't even have a proper character build-up. I also feel like the story can still stand on its own without the sex scenes and still be a nice film especially if it focused more on the relationship of Crispin and Fidel and the role Irene plays.
